Procedure for Lubricating a SKS Rifle

For this procedure, we will be using a great video that was created by Brownesll, Inc and uploaded to YouTube, the link for the video we will be referencing can be found here.

For ease of following this procedure below, we have outlined the step by step instructions, and accompanied each step with a .gif from the video linked above.

Note:  This procedure assumes that the SKS rile has already been fully broken down and you already have the proper cleaning supplies ready and on hand.  This procedure will not go into specific details regarding which cleaning solvents, lubricants, or tools, should be used due to the vast number of options available.  If you are interested in learning more about the most common/recommended cleaning solvents, lubricants and tools available, please see our post on this topic which can be found here (will be added soon).

Lubrication Procedure

Note:  The procedure outlined below represents some of the more common lubrication practices found online today and is in no way a representation of the “best” or “only” way to lubricate a weapon.  If you have any opinions or suggestions about how to properly lubricate this weapons platform, or if you believe that we are missing a step, please feel free to leave comment below, or send us an email.

  1.  Lubricating the SKS Firing PIN – Apply a small amount of lubricant to all sides of the firing pin.  After applying the lubrication, wipe away any excess oil using a cotton cloth or paper towel.

2.  Lubricating the SKS Bolt Assembly – Apply a small amount of lubrication to the Bolt Assembly and spread around evenly.  Be sure to work the lubrication get into every corner, and paying special attention to where the firing pin will slide within the bolt assembly.  After applying the lubrication, wipe away any excess oil using a cotton cloth or paper towel.

3.  Lubricating the SKS Bolt Carrier – Apply lubrication to the sides of the bolt carrier where it will slide within the upper assembly, and spread lubrication around the entire bolt carrier.  After applying the lubrication, wipe away any excess oil using a cotton cloth or paper towel.

4.  Lubricating the inside of the SKS Receiver – Using a cloth or paper towel (or drip in some lubricant and spread with your fingers), wipe the lubricant all around the inside of the receiver.  Be sure to focus on the rails for the bolt assembly and bolt carrier.  After applying the lubrication, wipe away any excess oil using a cotton cloth or paper towel.

5.  Lubricating the SKS Trigger Assembly – Apply 2 small drops of lubrication to each of the pins, on both sides of the trigger assembly.  After applying the lubrication, wipe away any excess oil using a cotton cloth or paper towel.

Your SKS is now properly lubricated and ready to be reassembled.
